Sept 30 (Reuters) - England's Phil Salt scored a blistering half-century as the visitors raced to an eight-wicket win over Pakistan in their sixth Twenty20 clash in Lahore on Friday to level the seven-match series at 3-3.


Salt, who had struggled for runs coming into the game, looked in ominous form from the outset when he opened his innings with two fours before helping England bring up 100 in just seven overs with a six off Aamer Jamal.

Alex Hales gave him support with a breezy 27 while Dawid Malan contributed 26, with both batsmen falling to the leg-spin of Shadab Khan.

The wickets proved to be mere consolation for Pakistan as Salt continued his onslaught and struck the winning runs in the 15th over, ending with 13 fours and three sixes in his 41-ball knock.

Earlier, Pakistan lost their opening two wickets for 15 after being put in to bat before captain Babar Azam launched a fine counter-attack, hitting seven fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 59-ball 87.

He was briefly supported by Iftikhar Ahmed (31) but Pakistan's middle-order failings cost them again as the bowling pair of David Willey (2-32) and Sam Curran (2-26) restricted the hosts to 169-6.

The teams will contest the final match in the series at the same venue on Sunday.

Sept 30 (Reuters) - The physical gold market in India flipped to a premium this week as demand improved ahead of festivities, while Chinese premiums stayed elevated.


Indian dealers charged premiums of up to $2 an ounce over of***ial domestic prices - inclusive of 15% import and 3% sales levies - versus $2.5 discounts last week.

Indians will celebrate Dussehra, Diwali and Dhanteras in October, when buying gold is considered auspicious.

"This week, demand was good as jewellers were making purchases for festivals. (However), the price rise in the second half of the week moderated demand a bit," said Chanda Venkatesh, m***ging director of CapsGold, a Hyderabad-based bullion merchant.

Local gold prices were around 50,689 rupees per 10 grams this week.

Jewellers expect robust demand in the upcoming festive season as consumers would celebrate festivals without COVID-19 restrictions, which hampered demand in the past two years, said a Mumbai-based dealer with a private bank importing gold.

In top consumer China, premiums of $20-$45 an ounce were charged over the international benchmark, compared with $26-$40 last week, amid a lack of fresh import quotas.

"There were some limited quotas issued and shipped via Hong Kong. However, it isn´t enough to bring down the premium," said Bernard Sin, regional director for Greater China at MKS PAMP.

And with the People's Bank of China vowing to stabilize the yuan, the country's gold premiums are likely to stay elevated before the start of the Golden Week.

China's central bank controls how much gold enters the country via quotas to commercial banks.

Meanwhile, lower prices gave a slight boost to demand in China, said Peter Fung, head of dealing, Wing Fung Precious Metals.

Hong Kong dealers charged $0.5-$4 premiums this week.

Gold changed hands at $0.25-$0.50 an ounce premiums in Japan, with traders anticipating more buying if global prices stayed near $1,600 levels, while Singapore saw $2.50-$3 premiums.

The Philippines on Friday handed over the reins of a new Muslim-led territory to rebel leaders who waged a decades-long fight for autonomy, but are now tasked with securing peace and prosperity.

President Rodrigo Duterte personally swore in Murad Ebrahim, head of the Catholic-majority nation's largest Muslim group, as interim chief minister at a symbolic Manila ceremony.

It comes after voters decisively backed in January the founding of the so-called Bangsamoro region in the south, the culmination of a peace deal to end a separatist insurgency that had killed some 150,000 people since the 1970s.

Duterte and Murad, leader of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), have both said they hope the pact will help head off the rise of Islamist extremism in the country's Muslim-populated southern region of Mind***o.

"The road to peace may be long and rough, but I am glad that we've finally reached its end point," Duterte said in a speech after also swearing the other members of a Bangsamoro transition government, a majority of them picked by the MILF.

"Most of all we would like to see an end to the violence that has wracked Mind***o and have cost so many lives for nothing," the president added.

Murad's MILF signed a peace treaty with the Philippine government in 2014, and the legislature of the mainly Catholic Asian nation last year passed a law creating the self-rule area, which voters later ratified.

Murad and his transition body will form a cabinet as well as pass laws until the temporary arrangement ends with the election of a regional parliament in May 2022.

During Murad's term some of his more than 10,000 armed fighters are expected to gradually disarm under the terms set by the peace treaty.

The rebellion began in the early 1970s as a bid to set up a separate Muslim state in the Mind***o region. The rebels later scaled down their objective to autonomy.

Despite the MILF peace deal, violence persisted as more radical Islamic groups set up shop in what remains the poorest segment of the country.

In May 2017, hundreds of foreign and local pro-IS gunmen seized Marawi, the country's largest Muslim city.

The Philippine military wrested back the ruined city after a five-month battle that claimed more than a thousand lives.

An earlier peace treaty between Manila and a rival Muslim rebel faction had created a self-rule area in 1996, but it was hampered by funding and corruption, while the MILF fought on.

The new entity is better-funded and slightly larger.

The national government retains police powers.
